Popularly known as “mama put” in Nigeria’s lingua franca, this US-based kitchen popularly known and called the “Zion Kitchen” has evolved into a new style, synonymous to first class restaurants. Once a single unit operated the kitchen, this eatery was famous among Africans, especially Nigerians who sought the conjures of the kitchen gods to flamboyantly satisfy their heavy appetite. Operated about 15 years today in the USA, Ms. Oyindamola Akinkugbe, a hardworking and tireless entrepreneur, envisioned this triumphant upgrade that even prophet T.B. Joshua of Nigeria did not see coming. Today, known as the “ZK lounge & West Africa Grill,” this visioning of Madam Akinkugbe has become a dream come through for both visitors to the USA and others who reside around the DC metropolitan area. Fully equipped with a lounge for private dining and entertainment, this multifunctional unit restaurant has now been upgraded to accommodate over a 100 seat-in dinning, with an alcoholic bar to server its patrons. Eatery can be ordered using the latest of the restaurant delivery systems which includes the “Uber delivery” services system and the “Chop 2 go” delivery services. The restaurant which operates between the hours of 10 am to 2 am standard eastern pacific time, offers a variety of menu to those who also desire to carry home or eat in. Talking with Ms. Akinkugbe, she revealed that the restaurant can now be rented for small gatherings, dance parties, birthday parties, and a host of other forms of smaller party entertainment. Ms. Akinkugbe additionally added that there will be occasional light band entertainment and DJ’s in the house to cap off the evening relaxation of her patrons. Story by Jolly Egbon
